police care uk donation

L-R Adam Getty, Psychological Services Lead, Police Care UK receives a donation from Harp and Crown Credit Union President, Alistair McGowan.

Harp and Crown Credit Union donate £500 to Police Care UK, a charity dedicated to supporting serving and veteran police officers and staff, volunteers, and their families who have suffered physical or psychological harm as a result of their policing role.

Police Care UK is independent of the police service, and their work is funded entirely by donations and fundraising. In the last six years, the charity has seen a 684% increase in enquiries from those connected with policing in Northern Ireland and in the last three years has spent £150,000 on mental health support for these individuals.

The Harp and Crown Credit Union donation will go directly towards therapy sessions for police personnel in Northern Ireland (NI), helping individuals recover from the unique challenges of policing.

In the last financial year, 11% of all Police Care UK enquiries came from those connected with the Police Service of Northern Ireland. In addition, during this time period:

  • 88% of those enquiries related to support with their mental health and wellbeing,

  • 54% of all enquiries related to trauma/PTSD/C-PTSD/ undiagnosed trauma - which is more than the national average.

  • 79% of all enquiries were assisted, whether that was through therapy, grants, peer support or even signposted to more appropriate services.

  • 57% of those assisted had a full psychological assessment to determine if the Police Care UK therapy service was right for them.

  • From those connected with police in NI who then completed the Police Care UK therapy survey after finishing their treatment, 89% said life was better because of this service

Alistair McGowan, Harp and Crown Credit Union President said:

“Harp and Crown Credit Union is proud to support Police Care UK, with our donation going towards therapy sessions for Police colleagues in Northern Ireland.  The mental health and wellbeing of our members and wider Police family in Northern Ireland is paramount, and we really appreciate the important work of Police Care UK, in assisting those in need through assessment, therapy and more.”

Adam Getty, Psychological Services Lead, Police Care UK said:

As Psychological Services Lead for Police Care UK, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Harp and Crown Credit Union for their generous donation. Coming from Northern Ireland, I hold a deep respect and admiration for police officers and the challenges not only they face, but what their family members face too. Contributions like this will directly support those who are suffering as a result of the traumas they have been exposed to in their role, ensuring that care is delivered with compassion, authenticity, and respect – values that are at the heart of what police personnel deserve and what we as an organisation strive to embody.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for standing with us in making a real difference.”
