The aim is to encourage people to look after their pets responsibly while also highlighting the benefits of pets in people’s lives. Do you have a furry friend in the family?

From our recent survey responses the top 5 pets owned by our members are dogs (53%), cats (17%), horses (3%), aquatic (2%), and farm animals (2%). Only 1% of our members have a hamster/guinea pig/rabbit. 10% of our members own other pets such as budgies, reptiles, ferrets, and insects.

BUT how much does your pet cost you?

The average costs incurred of owning a dog over its lifetime range from £5,200 to £15,700!

Average Annual Costs for a Pet:

  • Buying a pet £100-£2000.
  • Pet insurance could be anywhere around £150-£500.
  • Pet food between £200-£400.
  • Vaccinations £50-£150.
  • Surgery £1500-£5000
