The lighter evenings and mornings are upon us, time for a spring clean! And that includes your finances!

Here are 6 simple ways to give your money a reset:

  • Declutter & cash in: Go through your home and clear out items you no longer use. When in doubt throw it out, sell it, donate or recycle — and put any extra cash straight into savings.

  • Refresh your budget: Make sure your budget still works for your lifestyle. Review your income and expenses and consider a simple method like the 50/30/20 rule to keep things balanced.

  • Review your monthly outgoings: Check direct debits, subscriptions, mobile contracts, broadband and streaming services. Are you still using them all? Could you switch to a better deal?

  • Simplify your bank accounts: If you have multiple old or unused accounts, consider consolidating them. Keeping your money in fewer places makes it easier to manage and track.

  • Shop around at renewal time: Car, home or travel insurance due soon? Don’t auto-renew — compare prices to make sure you’re getting the best value.

  • Top up your emergency fund: Prepare for the unexpected by topping up your savings (your Credit Union account!). Even a small increase to your direct debit or payroll deduction can make a big difference over time.
