Stress Awareness Month

stress awareness month 2026
It's Stress Awareness Month and the theme this year is Be The Change

This theme encourages us to take small, meaningful actions to improve our own wellbeing and support those around us

Our members fulfil various roles within the police family, all with their own stress factors. That’s why this year isn’t just about recognising stress—it’s about actively doing something about it, no matter how small.

We encourage you to take some time today to take action in a way that works for you.

Here are 5 simple actions you can take today:

  • SUPPORT SELF LOVE - Be kind to yourself and prioritise rest. Aim for 7–9 hours of sleep to help your mind and body recharge—especially if you’re juggling shifts, health conditions, or caring responsibilities.
  • STEP AWAY - Take a proper break from your work. Even a short pause can help you reset, refocus, and reduce the risk of burnout.
  • MOVE YOUR BODY - A 10-minute walk can boost your mood and reduce stress. If you can, aim for 20 minutes during a break or after work.
  • REACH OUT - Talking is a powerful action. Share how you’re feeling with someone you trust—colleague, friend, or family member. Remember, "a problem shared is a problem halved".
  • TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR FINANCES - Financial stress is a major pressure for many. Reviewing your finances, reducing unnecessary spending, or restructuring repayments can be a positive step towards feeling more in control.
