5 Ways to Cut Costs This Christmas

100 days to christmas 26
Christmas is coming — and there are just 100 days to go!

While Christmas can be an exciting time of year, the costs can quickly add up.

From presents and food to nights out and travel, getting organised early can help you avoid a financial squeeze in December.

5 ways to keep your costs under control this year:

  • SET A CHRISTMAS BUDGET: Work out how much you can realistically afford to spend and divide your budget between presents, food, travel and other Christmas costs. Keep track of what you spend as you go and try to stay within your limit.
  • MAKE A PRESENT PLAN: Write a list of everyone you need to buy for and decide how much you want to spend on each person. Agreeing spending limits with family and friends or organising a Secret Santa can also help keep costs down.
  • START SHOPPING EARLY: You’ve got 100 days — use them! Spreading your shopping over the next few months means you don’t have to find the money for everything from one December payday. Keep an eye out for offers, but only buy something if it’s something you actually need.
  • SAVE A LITTLE EACH MONTH: Every bit you put aside now can make December easier. Set a regular amount to save each month and increase it if you can. Even small amounts can add up over the weeks.
  • PLAN SOME CHRISTMAS NIGHTS IN: You don’t have to spend a fortune to enjoy the festive season. Plan movie nights, board game evenings, baking days or get-togethers at home with family and friends instead of paying for expensive nights out.

Start planning now

The earlier you start preparing for Christmas, the more time you have to spread the cost and avoid last-minute spending.
