Top up before 1st April

Remember some gas and electricity rates are set to change from 1st April!  Since our December 2022 article, and in the last week alone, there have been some major announcements within the energy supplier sector.

A price cap is currently in place on energy until 31st March, with prices set to increase from 1st April 2023.  Updates and information on this can be found on the Ofgem site.

Last week, however, BBC News online reported that Power NI customers will face a 14% increase in electricity prices from 1st April.  A typical Northern Ireland household using electricity and mains gas will see their energy bill increase from the equivalent of £1,952 a year to £2,109.

Good news for Budget Energy customers however, as it announced a reduction in its tariffs by 19% for prepay and bill-pay domestic customers from 1st April, due to a decrease in wholesale energy costs.

Electric Ireland also announced a decrease of 9.2% in their electricity tariff from 1st April.  This follows a 23.9% tariff increase on 1st January 2023.

Switching supplier

Not everyone can switch their supplier but in some case it might be the best option to reduce costs.  Power to Switch "provide a free, impartial and independent service helping you find a better energy deal."
