VOLUNTEER ROLES

Volunteer Director Role Profile

Invitation for Expressions of Interest for Volunteer Harp & Crown Credit Union Director

Due to continuing growth of the Credit Union, the Board of Directors are seeking expressions of interest from eligible members who wish to serve as a Director of Harp & Crown Credit Union.

The role of Board members is to carry individual and collective responsibility for the good governance of the credit union, including its safety and soundness as a regulated financial institution. Collectively, the Board are legally responsible for the credit union and all its activities.

You would be required to attend a monthly meeting of the Board of Directors and to serve as a member on at least one of the credit union’s sub-committees which meet monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly as follows:

  • Finance & Investments (monthly)

  • Marketing (bi-monthly)

  • Credit Control (quarterly)

  • Membership, Nominations & HR (quarterly)

  • Audit & Risk (quarterly)

We are seeking up to 3 individuals who can demonstrate by the closing date that they:

  • are a Member of Harp & Crown Credit Union;

  • are able to attend monthly Board meetings at Newforge (usually Friday mornings)

  • are available to attend at least 1 sub-committee meeting as above (appointment to sub-committee will be made following appointment to the Board)

  • display sound judgement and decision-making skills

  • can maintain the highest levels of confidentiality

  • will uphold the values of Harp & Crown Credit Union

We would be interested in someone who has a professional background in either Human Resources, IT, or legal services as there are currently gaps in these areas on the Board.  We would also particularly welcome female applicants and those with an ethnic or other minority background as these groups are under-represented in all Committees and on the Board of Directors.

Whilst not an FCA-approved role, candidates would be expected to demonstrate that they meet the requirements of the ‘fit and proper’ test as laid out in FIT 2 - FCA Handbook.  The handbook details the main criteria under which FCA assess a person’s fitness and propriety – Honesty, Integrity and Reputation; Competence and Capability; and Financial Soundness.  In addition the role is also subject to Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) clearance, if not already in place.

A modest remuneration is paid to Volunteer Directors at £18.65/ hour for preparation time and £22.10/ hour for attendance time at meetings. These are based on NJC scale points 25 and 32 and will be uplifted with NJC scale uplifts.  PSNI have also expressed support of serving officers and police staff volunteering with the Credit Union by way of duty credit, subject to individual approval.

If you are interested in this role please e-mail an expression of interest clearly outlining how you feel you meet the criteria above and as outlined in the Volunteer Director Role Profile to recruitment@harpandcrown.co.uk by no later than 5pm on Monday 20th May 2024.

For further information on this role you can request a confidential discussion with the CEO or a member of the Board of Directors by e-mailing, nicola.caldwell@harpandcrown.co.uk.
