Men's Health Week - Start the Conversation TODAY

14 June 2024

mens health week

International Men’s Health week is celebrated between 10th – 16th June and everyone is encouraged to focus on the health of the men around them as well as themselves.

It's time to promote open conversations and health checkups.

There are many health challenges faced by men

  • Mental health in men is often overlooked with the pressure to appear “strong” and “be a man” because of this it is one of the main reasons 73% of suicides are men.

  • Specific health concerns including prostate problems, testicular cancer and heart disease where early detection and treatment is crucial. However, due to stigmas men are reluctant to address these concerns.

  • Making positive lifestyle choices like limiting alcohol consumption and finding the time to stay active.

  • Violence, 43% of men experience violence from the age of 15 and are more likely to be victims of violent crimes. This can include domestic violence

Mental Health

“Men don’t talk, we’re told.” The Mens Health Forum are encouraging men to share their stories this week, especially on health issues.

“Men’s Health Week aims to encourage men to talk, share their stories and access services, information and treatment that can enable them to live longer, more fulfilling lives.” Gloucestershire Health and Care.

Financial Problems

Homelessness is an increasing problem in society today with the ongoing cost of living crisis and 60% of individuals experiencing homelessness are men.  Having financial difficulties can largely impact on a person’s health.  Talk to us today to get help with debts using our debt consolidation loans or our ideas on debt management and advice.

Police Service NI

The police force in Northern Ireland is 55.7% male dominated.  Almost 1 in 5 police officers and staff have a form of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).  It was found it was more common in male officers and associated to frequent exposure to traumatic incidents.  For financial support or physical and mental support visit the RUC GC PSNI Benevolent Fund as they support officers, ex officers and relatives in need.
